Who is Mariquita? Why does she weep at night? In the mountainous villages of deep Southern Mexico, a childless woman makes a desperate wish upon a ladybuy. Soon, Mariquita is born. Mariquita carryies with her hope and happiness passed on to her by the colorful insect, but at what sacrifice?
Matthew James Rosas was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. As a young man, he attended Blessed Sacrament Parish School in San Anotonio, then St. Anthony Catholic School. While there, he served as a Missionary and spent time in a coastal village in Oaxaca, Mexico. It was this village which inspired him to write The Legend of Mariquita.
